The Republic of Curb

I am the opposite of Scarlet, I need heat and good weather to thrive. I don't mind rain, as long as it's WARM rain, but I hate the cold. I want to just get into bed and stay there til the flowers start blooming again. Where should I live? I thought about Hawaii but it's too expensive and the bugs are crazy, and as much as I hate the cold I'm not sure I hate it more than bugs. Where is there a warm climate without tons of bugs? Does it exist? I suppose I could move to the desert but scorpions scare me! Why I have a fear of scorpions I don't know...I grew up in Ohio for goodness sakes! The only contact I ever had with a scoripon was reading "The Pearl" by Steinbeck. Snakes, yes, Spiders, yes, scorpions? Nope. Anyways, I'm tired of the cold already and it's only the beginning of December =(

So you think you can dance

During the last season I got to the point where I didn't want to watch anymore, I keep seeing better dancers getting kicked off because so and so has a better personality. I have watched the season but it's even worse than ever. I don't understand how Mollee is still on the show after the poor performance she had in the beginning. Then the said she was in HSM...well there you go. I wish these contests were about dancing not popularity. It's sad that people like Will and Kayla can get removed because their personality didn't come through. I think this will be my last season. At least Elenor is still left, the only girl I could want to win.

Addiction

I signed up for a facebook account a month or so ago, to help a friend of mine find someone that I knew was on there but she couldn't find. I didn't go back again until a day or two ago and I haven't been off it since. I am absolutely addicted to it now. I have found people I haven't spoken to in 15 years, and I am so psyched by it. I have spoken to my sister and one of the two cousins that lives here, and one of my cousins that lives in Missouri. I'm not sure why I resisted it for so long, probably because I was fearful of getting random people adding me when I didn't know them. Either way, I'm stuck now, my kids are running around half naked and I'm too busy finding people to care =D

Brrrr

I hate the cold. I would much rather it be hot than cold every day. I am one that could do without winter completely. We just got a couple inches of snow, and while I am happy that the kids got to play in it I'm also very happy my daughter's school was closed for two days so I didn't have to go out into it. I am all for looking out over the woods when it snows and it clings to the trees and makes everything glisten and shine beautifully, as long as I can do it inside in front of a roaring fire with a blanket. I do have to go out in a few minutes to run an errand and I'm not looking forward to it...it's less than 20 degrees outside right now...that's cruel and unusual punishment.

A good day

This Saturday was a really good day for me. I got to sleep in til 9 am...which is a feat for someone who's kids get up at 6 am...I got to go over to Serena's house, with the baby, and eat a wonderful meal that she prepared for me and Vena. The rest of the day was pretty typical but it's so nice to have a different beginning than normal. So many times when you have kids you feel stuck because you have to have a normal routine since children thrive on them. Having a departure, even for a short time was wonderful. Now if I only had the money for a bigger house and live in nanny!

Sadness

I'm tired. I feel like I have been put through the ringer already this year. With the death of my mother-in-law and then all of us getting the stomach flu I feel like I have been run over by a truck. My normally cluttered and messy house is an absolute disgrace right now, you can't even move in it. I haven't gotten a good nights sleep in 6 months and if it weren't for my weekly playdate with some friends I wouldn't even see any of my friends anymore. I need a vacation, and I need to feel like I'm normal again, whatever normal is.

Pork-o-rama

So how are we going to fix the economy? Why we are going to borrow MORE money and spend it on preventing sexually transmitted diseases. That will create jobs. PFFT What a load of horseshit this "stimulus package" is. How can people believe in this? If 3/4 of the money won't be spent during the next two years how can it help the recovery? Truth is it can't, it's just payback to all the idiots that are friend with or related to the idiots in congress and the senate, D and R both. Money is made when people are allowed to make it. Until the government quits messing where it doesn't belong, we are screwed.

Teething

My 5 month old is getting his first tooth...holy crap is he mad about it too. He has been hollering at me for two days now, it has finally poked through so I'm hoping the yelling is almost done but it's not looking promising. I thought for the first couple months he was going to be my laid back baby but whoooo did he ever lull me into a false sense of security. Now he's louder than the other two.

Well now...I

It's finally here, the dawning of a new age. Let's see what he can do with it. I was disappointed about a couple of things but the two biggest were the people chanting at Bush and the litter left behind by the party of environmentalists. I guess I shouldn't be suprised about the litter but I was and disappointed. Actually, three; the price tag for the whole event was a little outrageous, they are whining about how much money we need and then spend 170 mil on a party. I felt bad for all the people with Blue, Purple and Silver tickets that were denied enterance. Hope they can get their money back.

Change?

So I am wondering how many of the people who voted for Obama are upset by the lack of "change" in his picks for his cabinet and staffers. I half expected him to bring in some non Washington personnel who Republicans would decry as having no experience. Most of his picks though, are just your normal Washington people who Clinton used. Do you feel the change will come from the top no matter who is in charge of the other agencies or do you feel hoodwinked into picking someone who called for change and then pulled the rug out from under you.

Happy Belated New Years!

Since we had just gotten back from Florida and had company over New Years here are my, albeit late, New Years Resolutions:

1. LOSE WEIGHT - for the love of god I will do this if it kills me.

2. Make it to book group every month and have read the book 10 out of 12 times!

3. Get Serena to take me on a photo taking day trip into nature, I've caught the picture bug and who better to get me out there?

4. Go to a wine tasting at least once this year.

5. Try a new food every month, starting with Ham this month (technically this isn't a new food but I have hated ham for years and I tried it again since I haven't eaten it since I quit smoking years ago and have found it's not so bad now)

6. Revisit all the major museums with the kids so they can start to develop the love for the arts young.

7. Read a classic every month, starting with O Pioneers in January - yes true it's the book group book, but I read it!

8. Keep a cash and food journal so I can beat myself up over all the money and junk I'm wasting.

I think that's enough to keep my busy...

Back

So after a busy month where I couldn't seem to find a break to get my thoughts together I am now back in the loop. Now more than ever an outlet will be nice to have. My mother in law fainted at home on Monday morning and passed Tuesday night. So all this week I have been getting funeral arrangements together. It's incredibly hard to plan the funeral of the woman who made my husband the man he is, trying to keep her husband from giving up and becoming one of those husbands that dies within months of their wives because they feel they have nothing else to live for, driving between funeral home and church to make decisions, all while keeping my 4 year old from being too sad. I can not image having to do this again let alone multiple times.

Movies from Books

I have been trying to decide whether to see Twilight. I wasn't particularly fond of the book, it was Ok but I find that my idea of the book never jives with the adaptation of another person so I am left disappointed. I think the first LoTR movie is the one exception that I have had of books I loved that were made into movies that I loved. So I will probably not go see it, why spend all that money on something that I will most likely find disappointing. Too bad they don't make movies anymore that are unique. How many movies have been remade in the last 5 years, it's horrible...didn't they remake the Incredible Hulk twice? Sad.

Sleep

I love to sleep. Yes that's right, I love to sleep. I hate having to get out of bed in the morning. I could sleep to noon everyday if my kids and husband would let me. Yet I get only 5-6 hours of sleep per night. If it comes right down to it I could go to bed every night around 8:30 after I get the kids to bed and settled but I don't, and every morning I wake up and regret not having gone to bed early. Yet I can not give up the few hours of the day that I have where I can do something without any children running afoot. Too bad most of that time ends up being spent doing dishes or picking up toys. Sometimes I feel very selfish that I get annoyed at having to do normal mother stuff that most people seem to do without complaint, Maybe I wasn't meant to be a mom...Ha too late now! Don't get me wrong I would never change that I had them if I had to do it over again, sometimes I just wish I had a nanny or two to chase them so I didn't have to!

Get out and vote

So we took the kids this morning to the polling place with us at around 7:30 am. The line was all the way out the front of the school. We took our place and gave the kids toys to play with and settled in for the wait. An election worker came through just a few minutes later calling for people who's names started D-G and we being C's were disappointed...but lo and behold after waiting somewhere around 5-10 minutes they called for A-C to come to the front of the line. So we moved all the way up to the gym door and were out the door after voting in less than 15 minutes. I love it. I felt bad for all the H-M people who were the ones that were holding up the line. Who would have thought there would be so many of them! So most of you that would read this know how I voted but I don't hold much hope for it to actually do any good this time. I can only hope that the Dems don't take over everything or I'll end up paying more taxes and losing any hope I have of getting ahead in this lifetime. I still cannot see why people feel that socialism is fair. Why is it not fair if I make money and fair if you take the money I make and give it to someone else? Why is it fair to punish people who work really hard to make something of themselves, open their own company, go to school to become a doctor or lawyer or MBA by taking their money to give to some random person who makes less than they do? Charity is a personal and private decision and should not be forced upon anyone. If I choose to not "share my wealth" that should be my choice and the government has no business dipping into my pocket anymore than they already do. How I wish there was a TRUE small government party that could actually win an election. I would love to see our government pared down.
I like economics, I think every political should have to take a course in economics before they can be elected to anything that would have them working with a city or states money. I was taking some economics classes at Mason when I got pregnant with Cordelia and it makes me crazy to see and hear all this garbage being said about how the government has to DO something. The government is the one that made this mess in the first place! The government needs to stay the hell away from the economy before they make it worse. My biggest pet peeve about politics and economics? The idea of taxing big businesses...who do you think pays the tax when the government lobbies a tax on big business? We do. The business, be it tobacco companies or car companies or oil companies they RAISE THEIR PRICES to offset the tax. Either way we pay it

Happy Halloween!

With all the excitement done for the evening I can not relax and think about what has happened today. The day started out with a trip to the Barn for trick or treat storytime. Nicholas wouldn't get dressed up so I took a baby cow and a pirate and a non dressed up Nicholas out for the show. We then came home and waited for Grandma and Grandpa to arrive. We also attended a autumn festival at our friends non-denom church. It was a huge building, they had a moon bounce and a big blow up slide. They set up all types of games so the kids could win candy. We all had a ball. We then came back to catch the tail end of Trick or Treat here at the house. We got to see all the neighbor kids dressed up. My favorite costumes of the day were the little girl of about 3 dressed as a Peacock and the little girl of about 2 as a pink cat. So cute!

Baptism

This Sunday is Tristan's baptism so we have all kinds of company coming in from out of town. You would think I would be getting things ready but I'm not! Instead of cleaning and putting things away I'm sitting here blogging and trying really hard to ignore all that I have to do. Too bad I can't do a 24 blog where I just sit and type all day. I bet that would get boring after about 20 minutes...

Oh well maybe I should go do what I need to do and stop procrastinating

My Barnes and Noble

So I went ahead and tried it, put in 5 titles as favorite books and lo and behold I got absolute crap back as recommendations. Out of the 12 books they recommended 5 of them were titles by the same author...as if I wouldn't read other things by an author I liked. I put in Atlas Shrugged, The Eye of the World, Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, The Romonov Prophecy, and The Lightning Thief. The recommendations I got were: two different editions of Fountainhead, Anthem, the Stand, Catcher in the Rye, another edition of Atlas Shrugged, The smithsonian guide to birds (WTF?), the 2009 complete Runner's day by day Log engagment calendar (yeah cause that has anything to do with what I put in), a CD version of Lord of the Rings that runs $100, On Beauty, the Ladies of Grace Adieu, and the Trudeau Vector. What absolute garbage, what possible reason do they have to recommend two of the same version of not just one book but two books. And I think I am quite capable of reading the remaining books by an author I liked. How about giving me an opportunity to read an author I may not have known about based on my responses. Only one book in that whole list fit that profile so I guess it wasn't a complete waste but still...The Smithsonian guide to Birds?!?

Things I want to read

OK so I have decided that since I can never remember what I want to read after I see it and thing 'Oh hey, I want to read that' I will make myself a list of things I have seen and really want to read!

1. Anything by Wilkie Collins - I read mysteries all the time and have never read the father of the mystery genre, how sad is that!

2. War and Peace - I even broke down and bought the new translation thinking that spending $40 on a hardcover will make me read it...so far it hasn't worked.

3. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - there aren't many books that are that yellow and I like it! Yes it's true I judge books by their covers, I have been known to not read a book when the cover is horrid looking.

4. The Story of Edgar Sawtelle - I have heard raves about this book but I haven't been able to bring myself to read it. I hate when that happens.

5. Historical fiction, preferably something with Kings, Queens, and crazy followers that either love or hate them.

6. Something new by Brandon Sanderson...come on get that Wheel of Time number 12 out already!

7. the Georgia Nichols series, since Terra gave it such a glowing recommendation. http://terrabehindthebooks.blogspot.com/2008/10/omg-i-love-louise-rennison.html

I suppose that will keep my busy awhile...
